A type of positive displacement pump that uses two rotating screws or rotors to move fluid. These two threads interact with each other in the pump casing to form a closed space that moves fluid from the inlet to the outlet. Twin screw pumps are known for their ability to handle a wide range of fluids, including high viscosity fluids, abrasive fluids, and fluids containing solid particles, as well as their ability to provide a steady, pulsation-free flow.

Types of Double Screw Pumps

Externally Timed Twin Screw Pump:

  • Characteristics: Uses timing gears outside the pump casing to synchronize thread movement, so the threads do not touch each other.
  • Applications: Ideal for fluids that require clean, contamination-free pumping, such as in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.

Internally Timed Twin Screw Pump:

  • Characteristics: Threads interact directly with each other inside the pump casing without the need for external timing gears.
  • Application: Used for fluids that are not sensitive to slight metal contamination, such as in the chemical and oil & gas industries.
